Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Matthew Jones at pick No. 242 is 33 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Dallas Turner at the 24th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nothing to complain about; Jackson Powers-Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took McKinnley Jackson at par in the 87th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A slide stopped in pick 173, with Braelon Allen worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Marcellas Dial was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 38, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Jones at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Matthew Jones at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
