There was a run on nobody at that position, and the 49ers started one anyway for Ephesians Prysock, 52 picks ahead of schedule. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They banked enough surplus on Rutledge to cover a lot of smaller sins. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Malachi Lawrence in the 45th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dani Dennis-Sutton at the 58th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: A.J. Haulcy still on the board at pick 73. A minor itch, scratched.
The board fumbled Germie Bernard all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Keylan Rutledge at slot 102 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Logan Jones is a better player than No. 108 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Jack Endries in pick 111; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Kaleb Proctor in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Trey Zuhn III in No. 127 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Kaleb Elarms-Orr at the 132nd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Zxavian Harris in slot 133 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Drew Allar at the 136th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ephesians Prysock. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Kaden Wetjen slid further than he should have, and Round 7, Pick 30 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Adam Randall in pick No. 256, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They did well to land Eli Heidenreich in the 257th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
