You could see the war room lean forward. Mike Washington Jr. at the Round 4 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Rolder proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In slot 24 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Fair-plus on Brandon Cisse, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Lee Hunter at the 70th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Sam Hecht in No. 92, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a running back like Mike Washington Jr. reach Round 4, Pick 7 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid up for Gracen Halton at pick No. 112 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaeden Roberts in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Drew Allar at the 149th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They went early on Jimmy Rolder in the 206th pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Zavion Thomas in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
