Green Bay Packers

No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Packers.

Of all the ways to open, the Packers chose the head-scratcher, spending the 88th pick on Maason Smith with quarterback, tight end and other spots still wide open.

Getting Jordan where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.5 · Pick 37 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 30
Good price on Troy Fautanu in the 37th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 35
Quinyon Mitchell at pick 41 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Jonah Elliss · DE-EDGE · rank 44
Jonah Elliss in the 59th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 87
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE and leaves quarterback, tight end and other spots untouched.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 82
Value with a capital V on Roman Wilson in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 126
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in slot 125, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 135
Malik Mustapha at the 135th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Rasheen Ali · RB · rank 188
Nice patience on Rasheen Ali, who had no business lasting to Round 6, Pick 28. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Sheridan Jones · CB · rank 212
Fair-plus on Sheridan Jones, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 202
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jawhar Jordan at pick No. 219 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Ja'Had Carter · S · rank 240
A clean, defensible pick in the 246th overall pick with a little surplus value in Ja'Had Carter. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
