Green Bay Packers

The Packers kept it disciplined and banked a B.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Demani Richardson at the Round 7 slot, a reach of 49 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

They banked enough surplus on Jones to cover a lot of smaller sins. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 27
In the 25th pick they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 59
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 26 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Max Melton · CB · rank 63
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Max Melton. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Marshawn Kneeland · DE-EDGE · rank 90
They paid sticker price for Marshawn Kneeland in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 96
They took Trey Benson at par in pick No. 91, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 100
No drama and no debate, Leonard Taylor III went about where he belonged in No. 101. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · James Williams · S · rank 120
They jumped the gun on James Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 131
No edge and no loss on Ainias Smith in pick No. 127; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Josh Newton · CB · rank 125
Josh Newton in Round 4, Pick 28 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Sione Vaki · S · rank 169
A straight-up fair deal on Sione Vaki at slot 168, value and slot in agreement. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 203
They paid up for Drake Nugent at No. 188 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Tahj Washington · WR · rank 192
Nice patience on Tahj Washington, who had no business lasting to the 204th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Tyrice Knight · LB · rank 216
Tyrice Knight in pick 216 is fair value, right on his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.4 · Pick 224 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 193
Somehow Elijah Jones was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 246
By-the-book stuff, LaDarius Henderson at slot 239 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 263
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jawhar Jordan this early at the 243rd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.30 · Pick 250 · Joshua Cephus · WR · rank 256
Joshua Cephus at Round 7, Pick 30 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Demani Richardson · S · rank 300
They reached a country mile for Demani Richardson at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
