The rest of the league had time to spare on Bryce Foster; the Giants did not wait, grabbing him 69 spots ahead at Round 6, Pick 11. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Igbinosun.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Spencer Fano went about where he belonged in pick No. 5. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chris Brazzell II in pick 37. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Deontae Lawson in the 87th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
Jalen Farmer at No. 92 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach for Nicholas Singleton in the 105th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Davison Igbinosun all the way to slot 112, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy little value on DeMonte Capehart in the 145th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Beau Stephens at pick 151 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Aaron Graves at slot 177 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jalen Stroman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach on Eric McAlister in No. 186; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Bryce Foster in pick No. 192, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Patrick Payton at the 193rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
