They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Vincent Anthony Jr., 97 picks early at the Round 5 slot. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Fields value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Elijah Sarratt at No. 48 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jacob Rodriguez in pick 57 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay Christen Miller at Round 3, Pick 19 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Kaytron Allen at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Logan Jones, who had no business lasting to pick No. 105. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Malachi Fields here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Aamil Wagner in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Vincent Anthony Jr. in slot 145 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Xavier Nwankpa in the 186th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Zane Durant in pick 192, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Bryce Foster at Round 6, Pick 12 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
