The tape said wait; the Giants did not. J. Michael Sturdivant went at the 241st overall pick, a good 43 picks before the board was ready.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, safety very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Denzel Boston at Round 2, Pick 5 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jacob Rodriguez at pick 60 is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Davison Igbinosun at the 89th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Nicholas Singleton enough to skip the value, taking him in the 105th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Chris McClellan at slot 145 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Aamil Wagner at slot 186 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kobe Baynes in No. 192 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Aaron Graves at pick No. 193 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, J. Michael Sturdivant well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
