The phones were a trap the Giants kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Hart that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the 39th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jordan Morgan. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jonathon Brooks in the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jermaine Burton. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Kris Jenkins at slot 70 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in pick 108, where Dominick Puni graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Cam Hart here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jase McClellan in pick No. 185 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
