New York Giants

The Giants answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Giants reached some 72 spots for Oronde Gadsden II, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B.

The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.8 · Pick 8 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 27
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid.
R1.16 · Pick 16 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 20
In pick No. 16 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 33
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Taliese Fuaga. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Princely Umanmielen · DE-EDGE · rank 68
A big swing on Princely Umanmielen at the 40th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Cooper Beebe · OT · rank 92
A wild overpay on Cooper Beebe in slot 57, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 55
Trey Benson is a better player than the 67th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 175
They left a pile of value on the table to take Oronde Gadsden II this early at pick 103. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 163
They talked themselves into Cam Hart at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Fentrell Cypress II · DB · rank 229
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Fentrell Cypress II. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 238
Eric Gentry in Round 6, Pick 11 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
