Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jeff Caldwell got past him. The Giants do not have to explain a thing at No. 227. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 10th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick No. 11 they get a three-down second-level presence at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy little value on Denzel Boston in Round 2, Pick 5, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Keionte Scott at the 87th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kamari Ramsey in pick 105 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Kaytron Allen in No. 145, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Anez Cooper in slot 186 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ephesians Prysock. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Justin Jefferson in slot 200 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They robbed the room for Jeff Caldwell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
