The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Giants spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Johnson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The McCarthy reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 50th pick is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
