Thirty-one other rooms let Kevin Coleman Jr. slide, and the Giants were the ones holding the card at pick No. 186. Highway robbery.
They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. If Schrauth pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at fair value.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Billy Schrauth at pick 105 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Charles Demmings at the 145th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Kevin Coleman Jr. in No. 186 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cameron Ball. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Keagen Trost at Round 6, Pick 12. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
