The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Giants spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A to show for it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Pearl falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, with J.J. McCarthy leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.30
· Pick 30
· J.J. McCarthy

· rank 23
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
R2.15
· Pick 47
· Adonai Mitchell
· WR
· rank 32
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Adonai Mitchell at the 47th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.17
· Pick 49
· Kamari Lassiter
· CB
· rank 41
Nice patience on Kamari Lassiter, who had no business lasting to No. 49. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.30
· Pick 62
· Braden Fiske
· DL
· rank 58
Braden Fiske at the 62nd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.6
· Pick 70
· Kamren Kinchens
· S
· rank 64
Kamren Kinchens in pick No. 70 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.19
· Pick 83
· Patrick Paul
· OT
· rank 69
A tidy bit of business in slot 83, where Patrick Paul graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.7
· Pick 107
· Braelon Allen
· RB
· rank 106
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.5
· Pick 141
· Trevor Keegan
· OG
· rank 144
No edge and no loss on Trevor Keegan in pick 141; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.8
· Pick 183
· Khristian Boyd
· DL-EDGE
· rank 178
Fair-plus on Khristian Boyd, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
R7.8
· Pick 228
· Julian Pearl
· OT
· rank 204
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 228 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
