The search is over. The Giants handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Every board in the league had Lloyd lower, and that gap is the story. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Smith-Wade. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Drake Maye at the 6th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in Round 2, Pick 7, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Josh Newton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Mahogany a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
MarShawn Lloyd at slot 107 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ben Sinnott. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Chau Smith-Wade all the way to the 185th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
