They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jeff Caldwell, 47 picks early at No. 145.
That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Wallace III pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Sonny Styles at the 5th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took Chase Bisontis at par in slot 48, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Davison Igbinosun in Round 3, Pick 15; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Chris McClellan at pick 105, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Jeff Caldwell at pick No. 145, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach on Ephesians Prysock in No. 181; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kaelon Black in slot 193 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Harrison Wallace III at the 231st pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
