Somebody in Round 7, Pick 25 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Ollie Gordon II, the No. 158 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a load in the middle. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value said wait; Donovan Jackson in pick 58 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Xavier Watts in the 89th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Gunnar Helm at the 126th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Danny Stutsman all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 241 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
