You build a draft on nights like this. Cam Skattebo had no business being available in the 241st pick, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Griffith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They read the board right and Tyler Warren was the payoff at the 58th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy little value on Donovan Jackson in slot 89, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Kevin Winston Jr. in Round 4, Pick 25 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They reached into another round for Thor Griffith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Cam Skattebo in the 241st overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
