Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Bhayshul Tuten got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at the 239th overall pick.
Reaching for Nwankpa left real value on the table behind him. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get a disruptive interior force, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Taking Kenneth Grant in pick No. 55 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Colston Loveland in pick 86, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Luke Kandra slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavier Nwankpa. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board fumbled Bhayshul Tuten all the way to No. 239, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
