The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cam Skattebo, the No. 178 name on the board, in pick No. 235.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Nwankpa reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Booker in the 53rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Jackson at Round 3, Pick 20 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sonny Styles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Value said wait; Xavier Nwankpa in pick No. 164 says they were not listening. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at the 235th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
