Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Bhayshul Tuten got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at slot 241. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Donovan Jackson in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Colston Loveland in the 89th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kevin Winston Jr. at Round 4, Pick 25 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 165 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a running back like Bhayshul Tuten reach pick 241 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
