The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 156 name on the board, sitting there at pick 239 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They are betting Nwankpa proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Somehow Tyler Booker was still sitting there in the 55th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Jalon Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Barrett Carter at pick 122 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Xavier Nwankpa at the 164th pick, and the board is aghast. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board fumbled Bhayshul Tuten all the way to slot 239, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
