The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jalon Walker, the No. 25 name on the board, in the Round 3 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 19 they get an anchor for the defensive front, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tate Ratledge in the 53rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalon Walker at Round 3, Pick 20 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Sonny Styles at No. 120 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
You do not let a tight end like Oronde Gadsden II reach slot 164 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A safety of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
