When a board-topper like Ollie Gordon II slides to the 235th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Every board in the league had Nwankpa lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 26
In the 19th pick they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Tyler Booker · OG · rank 37
Tyler Booker at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 44
Taking Tyler Warren in pick No. 84 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.19 · Pick 120 · Andrew Mukuba · S · rank 71
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in No. 120, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.27 · Pick 164 · Xavier Nwankpa · S · rank 190
They reached into another round for Xavier Nwankpa, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 164
Circle this one: Ollie Gordon II at pick 235 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
