The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 103 name on the board, in the 241st overall pick. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The Capehart pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Warren at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalen Royals at the 89th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; DeMonte Capehart in No. 126 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavier Nwankpa. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They will replay Smael Mondon Jr. at Round 7, Pick 25 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
