Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 157 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 241. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Nwankpa reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They will replay Emeka Egbuka at Round 2, Pick 26 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 89th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Luke Kandra in No. 126 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Nwankpa in pick No. 164 is miles ahead of his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Bhayshul Tuten still on the board at pick 241. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
