Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 156 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 23. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 19 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nice patience on Tyler Warren, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 23. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Xavier Watts in the 86th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Luke Kandra is a better player than pick 122 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Sonny Styles in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 239 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
