The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Ollie Gordon II, the No. 164 name on the board, sitting there at slot 241 like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Kandra left real value on the table behind him. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Warren slipping to pick No. 58 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They jumped the gun on Luke Kandra, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Andrew Mukuba here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Taking Rod Moore in pick 165 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Ollie Gordon II in the 241st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
