The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Ollie Gordon II fell into Round 7, Pick 23.
If Nwankpa pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a disruptive interior force. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Warren at the 55th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Deone Walker at pick No. 86 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in slot 122, where Luke Kandra graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Nwankpa in the 164th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ollie Gordon II in pick 239 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
