Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Cam Skattebo, the No. 114 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 235.
Nwankpa has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Kenneth Grant at par in pick 19, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Booker slid further than he should have, and slot 53 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tyler Warren at the 84th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Xavier Nwankpa in the 164th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Taking Cam Skattebo in Round 7, Pick 19 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
