The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Texans watched Bhayshul Tuten slide 84 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Nwankpa reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get protection for the quarterback, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Deone Walker at pick No. 58 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Tyler Warren in pick 89 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A safety of that caliber at No. 126 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Xavier Nwankpa in Round 5, Pick 27 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They barely believed it either: Bhayshul Tuten still on the board at the Round 7 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
