You build a draft on nights like this. Sonny Styles had no business being available in No. 165, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The cost of the Capehart reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Warren at pick No. 58. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Xavier Watts in No. 89 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for DeMonte Capehart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a safety like Sonny Styles reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A tidy bit of business in the 241st pick, where Donovan Edwards graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
