Thirty-one other rooms let Jake Majors slide, and the Texans were the ones holding the card at the Round 5 slot. Highway robbery. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The cost of the Capehart reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value.
Tyler Warren slipping to the 58th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Watts at Round 3, Pick 25 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
DeMonte Capehart at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jake Majors at No. 164 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Xavier Nwankpa at the 241st pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
