Call it larceny. Tyler Warren sat on the board until pick 89, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Broughton pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 58th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Tyler Warren in pick No. 89 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Vernon Broughton at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Sonny Styles in pick 165 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jaylen Reed in Round 7, Pick 25, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
