Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Cam Skattebo got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at the 241st pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Nwankpa pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a load in the middle at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 26, with Tyler Warren worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jalen Royals in the 89th pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled Luke Kandra all the way to slot 126, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Xavier Nwankpa at the 164th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Cam Skattebo at No. 241 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
