Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Colston Loveland, the No. 46 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 89th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Capehart left real value on the table behind him.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Tyler Booker in pick 58, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Colston Loveland at pick No. 89 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for DeMonte Capehart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Rod Moore at the 165th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They barely believed it either: Jaylen Reed still on the board at No. 241. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
