Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Cam Skattebo got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at pick 241. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a load in the middle. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They read the board right and Tyler Warren was the payoff at pick 58. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Donovan Jackson in slot 89, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Luke Kandra in the 126th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Kevin Winston Jr. in pick No. 165 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cam Skattebo at No. 241 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
