The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Kevin Winston Jr., the No. 92 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 27.
They will need Stowers to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a disruptive interior force. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Booker at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Jalen Royals at the 89th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Eli Stowers in the 126th pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kevin Winston Jr. in slot 164 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Somehow Xavier Nwankpa was still sitting there in No. 241, and they pounced on premier safety value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
