You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Xavier Nwankpa in Round 5, Pick 27.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Booker steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get a disruptive interior force. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 55 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in pick 86, where Deone Walker graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Luke Kandra was the payoff at the 122nd overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Nwankpa at slot 164 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Shilo Sanders in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
