The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Connor Colby, the No. 175 name on the board, in Round 7, Pick 25. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The cost of the Nwankpa reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 26 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Colston Loveland in the 89th pick, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; DeMonte Capehart in the 126th overall pick says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Xavier Nwankpa at pick 164 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Connor Colby at No. 241 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
