The rest of the league had time to spare on Vernon Broughton; the Texans did not wait, grabbing him 53 spots ahead at Round 3, Pick 25. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
However the rest shakes out, Styles at that price is a win they earned. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a building block for the line, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Tate Ratledge in slot 58, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Vernon Broughton at the 89th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Oronde Gadsden II at the 126th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Sonny Styles was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylen Reed at pick No. 241 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
