Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Cam Skattebo, the No. 113 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 241.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Taking Tyler Booker in pick 58 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Xavier Watts in the 89th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Barrett Carter all the way to pick No. 164, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 25, and they pounced on premier running back value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
