When a board-topper like Kevin Winston Jr. slides to pick 165, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not.
They will need Jackson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a building block for the line, reach and all. A real need, handled.
A real head-scratcher, Donovan Jackson in No. 58 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jalon Walker in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into DeMonte Capehart at pick 126, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Kevin Winston Jr. in pick No. 165, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Shilo Sanders in the 241st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
