The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Ryan Fitzgerald, the 207th overall pick, roughly 90 picks past where he belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If Ritzie pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A slide stopped in Round 1, Pick 29, with Josh Simmons worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tyler Booker in the 61st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for TreVeyon Henderson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Mason Taylor in slot 126, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jahvaree Ritzie in the 192nd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ryan Fitzgerald in No. 207 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Miles Frazier at pick No. 238 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jack Kiser at Round 7, Pick 34 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
