If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. DeMonte Capehart at the Round 7 slot is 82 spots clear of where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
In pick No. 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 68
Trey Benson at slot 56 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 75
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at No. 87. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 183
Jaylan Ford in the 173rd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 210
A reasonable price with a little left over, Christian Jones in pick 213. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 274
Nathaniel Watson in the 231st overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 324
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeMonte Capehart in the 242nd pick, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
