If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. DeMonte Capehart at the Round 7 slot is 82 spots clear of where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Trey Benson at slot 56 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at No. 87. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaylan Ford in the 173rd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Christian Jones in pick 213. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nathaniel Watson in the 231st overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
