The Chargers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 5, Pick 7 on Ashton Gillotte a full 20 spots early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Sanders. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value with a capital V on Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick No. 38, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Sedrick Van Pran at the 70th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Cam Hart went about where he belonged in slot 106. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ashton Gillotte at the 143rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, T.J. Sanders in pick 184. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They liked Kamal Hadden enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 227. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
