The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Colston Loveland slide 21 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Amos proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Tate Ratledge at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Trey Amos at No. 36, and the board is aghast. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tight end of that caliber at slot 67 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy little value on Jayden Higgins in the 79th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jake Majors at Round 4, Pick 2. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Jaeden Roberts in pick 138 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
