Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Keagen Trost at the 138th overall pick is 44 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lee III.
Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on LT Overton in pick No. 58; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Parker Brailsford at Round 4, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Dametrious Crownover in the 133rd pick, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Keagen Trost in No. 138 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They read the board right and Will Lee III was the payoff at slot 139. A minor need, but a need all the same.
