The rest of the league will want that one back. Chau Smith-Wade tumbling to the Chargers in the Round 5 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
They will need Anderson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They let Chop Robinson come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 5. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Amarius Mims in pick No. 40, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 69th overall pick, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Jalen McMillan at par in slot 95, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Braelon Allen at the 105th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Josh Newton, who had no business lasting to No. 132. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy bit of business in pick 140, where James Williams graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Dallin Holker is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at No. 174. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Dillon Johnson higher than pick No. 175, and the running back fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jha'Quan Jackson in pick 225 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
