This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Ricky Pearsall, the No. 200 name on the board, stolen at No. 227. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 7 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Terrion Arnold in slot 38, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sedrick Van Pran. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Marshawn Kneeland in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 5, Pick 7 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Michael Barrett in pick 184 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ricky Pearsall in the 227th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nelson Ceaser at No. 228 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
